While there are similarities between Taiwan and China regarding culture and language, they offer very different study abroad experiences. Taiwan is the better study abroad destination for students looking for a smaller, less developed location that speaks Mandarin and incorporates traditional characters into its language. Taiwan offers both an urban experience in cities like Taipei and Kaohsiung, but also more scenic locations along the coast. China may be a better fit for students looking to study in a more developed, urban destination that boasts significant historical and cultural sites across the nation. With more globalized destinations, Beijing and Shanghai provide students with bustling city environments abundant in history, cultural heritage, and global significance.
