Buenos Aires is an incredible study abroad location for students looking to explore Latin America, learn the Spanish language, and immerse themselves in Latin culture.
A vibrant port city, Buenos Aires is also the world’s leading Spanish language publishing center with a population of 13 million and the cultural intrigue found only in cities of this size and prestige.
As an international student in Buenos Aires, you will commute via subway and bus, attend courses, enjoy meals and social time, explore cultural attractions in the afternoons, and spend evenings socializing in parks, cafés, or theaters.

The Culture

EXCURSIONS & ACTIVITIES
Every CIEE program has frequent cultural excursions uniquely designed to complement the program’s academics and enhance students’ cultural immersion. CIEE Buenos Aires strives to presents the students with a variety of cultural activities and learning opportunities that truly enrich the local experience:
- Enjoy traditional Argentinian cuisine and savor classic dishes such as empanadas and chocotorta
- Immerse yourself in the greatest passion of Argentinians by playing a friendly soccer match with locals and fellow students.
- Visit museums, art galleries, and cultural centers such as the Museo de Bellas Artes, Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires, Centro Cultural Recoleta, and others
- Attend live music concerts at the local opera house Teatro Colón
- Explore different neighborhoods, discover their history, unique characteristics, and enjoy their food
- Take an excursion to Salta, in northern Argentina, to explore one of the country's first founded cities, its rich history, and its breathtaking landscapes

PROJECTS
Volunteer Opportunities: Volunteer at a local nonprofit or non-governmental organization involved in social policy, human rights, community service, and public health matters, among others. Responsibilities may include teaching English to children of low socio-economic communities, helping people with disabilities, supporting the work of a city library, or coordinating local/regional conferences.

HOUSING & MEALS
HOUSING
CIEE Buenos Aires offers diverse housing options to ensure you're comfortable in your home away from home. From homestays to shared apartments, we will strive for your accommodation preferences to be met. Additionally, all housing options are located in neighborhoods with convenient access to public transportation, shops, cafés, and eateries.
Standard Housing: Includes a single room at a homestay, a double room at a shared apartment, or a double room at a student residency located within a 60-minute commute from CIEE Buenos Aires.
- Homestays: Experience real, day-to-day life in Buenos Aires by living with a typical Argentine host, such as families with young children, single professionals, young couples with no children, and older couples whose children visit but do not live at home. Homestays feature a kitchen, living room, and bathroom shared with the host.
- Apartments and residence halls: Include kitchens, common areas, and laundry facilities shared with other students.
Select Housing: Includes a single room in a shared apartment or single accommodation in a studio apartment located within 45 minutes from CIEE Buenos Aires. Apartments boast kitchens, common areas, and laundry facilities shared with other students. Select housing requires an additional fee.
Select Plus Housing: Includes a single room in a shared apartment or single accommodation in a studio apartment located within 30 minutes from CIEE Buenos Aires. Apartments boast kitchens, common areas, and laundry facilities shared with other students. Select plus housing requires an additional fee.
A note: The default criterion to assign housing is first-come, first-served; however, other factors may also be considered. If we cannot accommodate your first housing choice, we'll let you know before you arrive. Non-standard housing options require an additional fee that can be found in the program Dates and Fees.
MEALS
Homestays: Homestays include two meals per day – breakfast and either lunch or dinner. Host families and students arrange their own meal schedules. Students are responsible for the remaining meal, either preparing it at home or eating in one of the many restaurants and cafés throughout the city.
Apartments/Residence Halls: Meals are not included
Academics
This intensive eight-week program is dedicated to Spanish language acquisition through classroom instruction combined with cultural and community activities. Students take three Spanish language courses, focused on grammar and syntax, oral communication, conversation, and reading and writing. Students are placed in the appropriate level depending on the results of an online placement test and an onsite oral interview administered during orientation. In-class work is augmented with co-curricular visits to the city’s rich variety of cultural institutions and organizations relevant to the course offering.
Spanish courses to be delivered are contingent upon enrollment numbers and the proficiency level of the students. Please approve all Spanish courses with your advisors before arrival.
CIEE Buenos Aires is in one of the most vibrant and student populated neighborhoods of the city and offers easy access to some of the city’s nicest parks, restaurants, cafés, and shops.

To help you budget, keep in mind that students are responsible for the cost of international airfare, local transportation, books and supplies, visas, and personal expenses. In addition, your college or university may charge additional fees for study abroad, or may require you to receive a transcript via CIEE's School of Record, which carries an additional fee of $500.

Financial Aid
CIEE offers the most grants and scholarships of any study abroad organization, including $8 million/year in travel grants, merit-based scholarships, institutional and MSI grants, and Gilman Go Global Grants.
