Your CIEE Semester Global Internship program in Buenos Aires lasts 12 weeks and features three key components: a full-time internship with an international organization (approximately 30 hours per week), an internship seminar, and the option to take a course taught online through CIEE’s global academic partner, ASU. Enhance your experience with cultural and extracurricular activities while building career skills, expanding your professional network, and immersing yourself in Argentine culture. Housing

CIEE Buenos Aires offers diverse housing options to ensure you're comfortable in your home away from home. From homestays to shared apartments, we will strive to meet your accommodation preferences. Additionally, all housing options are located in neighborhoods with convenient access to public transportation, shops, cafés, and eateries.

Standard Housing: Includes a single room at a homestay or a double room at a shared apartment or residence hall located within 60 minutes from CIEE Buenos Aires.

Homestays: Experience real, day-to-day life in Buenos Aires by living with a typical Argentine host, such as families with young children, single professionals, young couples with no children, and older couples whose children visit, but do not live at home. Homestays feature a kitchen, living room, and bathroom shared with the host.
Shared Apartments/Residence Halls: Apartments and residence halls include kitchens, common areas, and laundry facilities shared with other students.

Select Housing: Includes a single room in a shared apartment or single accommodation in a studio apartment located within 45 minutes from CIEE Buenos Aires. Apartments boast kitchens, common areas, and laundry facilities shared with other students. Select housing requires an additional fee.

Select Plus Housing: Includes a single room in a shared apartment or single accommodation in a studio apartment located within 30 minutes from CIEE Buenos Aires. Apartments boast kitchens, common areas, and laundry facilities shared with other students. Select Plus housing requires an additional fee.

A note: The default criterion to assign housing is first-come, first-served; however, other factors may also be considered. If we cannot accommodate your first housing choice, we'll let you know before you arrive. Non-standard housing options require an additional fee that can be found in the program Dates and Fees.

Meals

Homestays: Include two meals per day – breakfast and either lunch or dinner. Host families and students arrange their own meal schedules. Students are responsible for the remaining meal, either preparing it at home or eating in one of the many restaurants and cafés throughout the city.

ASU offers thousands of online courses in asynchronous 7.5-week sessions that fit within the CIEE academic calendar.

Requirements

All Global Semester Internship participants take the 9-credit full-time internship with the required embedded internship seminar, plus an optional ASU online course (ASU session A in spring, and ASU session B in fall) for a total of 9-13 semester credits.

CIEE internship: 9 U.S. semester credits/13.5 quarter credits; 45 hours of in-person and asynchronous online learning activities and a minimum of 360 internship placement hours.
ASU online courses: Typically 3 - 4 U.S. semester/4.5-6 quarter credits; 45-60 contact hours

Academic Culture

CIEE courses are designed to follow U.S. academic culture and standards. The integrated academic course, which correlates with the internship, is taught in-person and asychronously. Students are expected to dress and behave professionally throughout their internship and are subject to the agreed-upon internship protocols arranged by CIEE and the host organization.

ASU Courses: Most ASU online courses are asynchronous. You may find yourself in classes with students from ASU, other American universities, and students from around the world. You’ll receive direct and individualized support from faculty, 100% online.

Class Format

Students participate in a full-time in-person internship and required academic course featuring both in-person class sessions and online asynchronous work designed to help students develop professional and intercultural competencies to complement their internship experience.

ASU online courses meet in “sessions” that are 7.5 weeks long in the semester, and all work must be completed within the session dates regardless of when your other CIEE courses begin or end.

Grading

The U.S. grading scale of A-F is used. Students are graded on the basis of in-class and online engagement and preparation, and specific assessments such as project work, presentations, and examinations.

ASU grading follows the same format and standards as ASU courses taught in-person.

Courses are listed below by block and track; course list subject to change. Courses are in English unless otherwise noted. “GI” denotes courses that are offered at multiple CIEE locations.
Many CIEE courses are available in multiple CIEE locations. To help ensure you are able to enroll in the courses you need, some courses may be facilitated as a Hybrid course by an instructor from a location that is separate from your own. In a Hybrid course, you will learn either face-to-face or online, depending on your location. However, regardless of your location, you will apply what you learn from the instructor and course materials in your location. Hybrid courses can be identified in the course list as those whose course codes end in “CIEE” – open the syllabus to see the instruction location, if known.

To help you budget, keep in mind that students are responsible for the cost of international airfare, local transportation, books and supplies, visas, and personal expenses. In addition, your college or university may charge additional fees for study abroad, or may require you to receive a transcript via CIEE's School of Record, which carries an additional fee of $500.
