Open Campus Block Programs
Our most customizable program, Open Campus Block allows you to flexibly design your own study broad experience. You can spend six, 12, or up to 18 weeks in your choice of 20+ incredible locations. The best part? Open Campus Blocks align with the traditional U.S. calendar and the quarter school system calendar, so you can fit study abroad into your year no matter which calendar your school follows.
Choose from:
- Semester Blocks: You’ll spend part of (or all of) your semester earning six credits per six-week block in London, Sydney, Cape Town, or another Open Campus Block Network location
- Quarter Blocks: If you’re part of the quarter school system, you can earn up to 21 credits in up to 12 weeks across all major areas of study, from business to STEM
- Summer Blocks: If summer study abroad is more your style, spend six- or 12-week blocks of your summer break learning in Dublin, Santiago, Shanghai, and more

Traditional Study Abroad Programs
Traditional study abroad programs are anything but boring. These are our tried-and-true programs that students love year after year that nicely align with the traditional semester-long U.S. calendar – though there are certain exceptions to this, and quarter students should still explore these options to see if one fits.
Some of the perks of a traditional study abroad program include:
- Having a single home base: Staying in one location for your entire term fully immerses you in your host country so you can settle into your home abroad, establish deep connections with locals, expose yourself to the local language, and really immerse yourself in the local culture
- Taking semester-long courses: On a traditional program, you’ll take a semester’s worth of courses just like your home university; you may even be able to direct enroll at a local university to experience traditional campus life abroad, depending on your program
- Experiencing lots of co-curricular activities: Much like our other program models, traditional programs are loaded with frequent co-curricular activities, day trips, overnight excursions, and comparative learning opportunities to bring your coursework to life
From Arts + Sciences and Liberal Arts to Business + Culture and Language + Culture, there are many incredible programs to consider across CIEE’s network of 40+ locations worldwide.

Summer In Programs
If a short-term study abroad program during your summer break is more your speed, consider our 100+ academically rigorous and incredibly exciting summer study abroad programs. You can choose between summer blocks (which run six weeks in one location or 12 weeks in up to two locations), summer sessions (which run four to 12 weeks long), or long-term summer programs (which run for eight weeks).
The benefits of short-term study abroad programs, like summer programs, are:
- They’re budget friendly: There’s a lot packed into a short-term program for a fraction of the cost of a semester-long program
- You’ll earn extra credits: Take interesting courses and earn credits toward your degree without missing time during the school year
- You won’t miss campus events: During a summer program, you can have the best of both words – an exciting summer abroad and a school year full of campus events and activities
