Making Rice Cakes!
This weekend, I went to a rice cake making class near Insadong! Rice cakes are a Korean staple. They can be sweet or savory, depending on how you make them. I think one of the most well-known rice cake dishes in Korea is tteok-bokki (떡볶이). 떡볶이 is essentially rice cake served with gochujang sauce. It is very chewy but is very spicy!
For the rice making class, I decided to make sweet rice cakes. We were given red bean paste to insert into the rice cake as filling, as well as sesame oil to make sure the rice cakes didn't clump up on each other when they were packed into their container.
The whole process of making rice cakes was fun. It felt like playing with Play-Doh as we molded the rice cake into its shape. For my cakes, I shaped them to look like flowers.
After it was over, we decided to go to a cafe near the class and eat our rice cakes while sipping on our drinks!
