A Love Letter to London
By: Anumita Ghosh
When I flew to London for a summer abroad, I expected a bit of adventure before my senior year of college. What I didn’t anticipate was leaving with lifelong friends, unforgettable experiences, and a deeper sense of self.
In just six weeks, I explored London’s vibrant neighborhoods, iconic landmarks, and hidden gems. Here’s a glimpse of how you can make the most of your time in this incredible city.
Half-Day Adventures in London
Notting Hill Market
Spend an afternoon wandering through the lively stalls of this famous market, where you’ll find antiques, handmade treasures, and global street food. Don’t forget to grab a sweet treat!
Regent’s Park & Marylebone
Stroll the charming streets of Marylebone, known for its upscale boutiques, cozy cafes, and bookstores. Nearby, the tranquil Regent’s Park offers stunning rose gardens and peaceful walking paths.
Oxford Circus
Just minutes from the CIEE study center, this bustling shopping district is ideal for post-class retail therapy. Stop by Primark for affordable fashion or enjoy a quick bite at a local cafe.
Waterloo Bridge & Tate Modern
Take a sunset walk across Waterloo Bridge for breathtaking city views. Head south to enjoy riverside food stalls and live music, ending your evening at the Tate Modern for their free and trendy Tate Lates.
Big Ben, Buckingham Palace & London Eye
Tick off London’s most iconic landmarks in one afternoon. Start at the London Eye, cross the bridge to Big Ben, and finish with a stroll through the park to Buckingham Palace. Your camera roll will thank you!
Bloomsbury & King’s Cross
The CIEE study center’s neighborhood is full of charm. Discover cozy study spots, explore the British Library, or snap a photo at the magical Platform 9¾ at King’s Cross Station.
