A Day at the Seoul Design Festival
The Seoul Design Festival is an exhibition that is held annually and features professional illustrators, creative agencies, and young Korean designers who specialize in fashion, packaging, furniture, and graphic design. As a Visual Media student, I am constantly new inspirations and fresh perspectives. Attending the Seoul Design Festival allowed me to learn from the perspectives of Korean designers.
This year the Festival took place at the Coex Exhibition Hall, about an hour away from the Sinchon campus. One aspect that amazed me was the amount of effort that went into each booth’s display. Every booth was more than a showcase of work, but an immersive experience. For many illustrators, they transformed their booths into interactive environments, like grocery stores, and bedrooms. Many illustrators used creative installations to bring their art to life.
Many artists and designers also featured photos and videos that highlighted their processes and their brand stories which was super interesting to learn and hear about. Getting a glimpse of the behind-the-scenes was fascinating to watch their projects come to life. An acted as a powerful reminder that design isn't just about making products look beautiful, but about problem-solving and connecting with people.
Even if you aren’t a designer or an artist, I would still highly recommend attending the Seoul Design Festival. The interactive exhibits, and creative displays, offer a little something for everyone!
