John's Program
I was born in Dallas, Texas, at the same hospital our nation's president would be pronounced deceased some 6 months later. Just prior to my brother's birth we moved to the adjoining city of Irving, Texas. Irving is nesteled between Dallas and Ft. Worth and from 1971 to 2008 we found fame as Home of The Dallas Cowboys. I often times bragged that our household at 1405 Oak Lea, a dead end street, fell under the shadow of Texas Stadium, imploded and now a highway construction staging area. Along with my 6 brothers and sisters I attended grade school, middle, school and high school in Irving graduating from Irving High in 1981. I enjoyed participating on our Tiger soccer team and evenings, weekends, summers and holidays I worked concessions at The 183 Drive In Theater. After my fortunate graduation from high school I worked for Chili's Corporation for 6 years. I travelled to California, Colorado, Oklahoma, Virginia, Louisiana, and across our Texas landscape opening 24 new Chilis in two years as the Kitchen Training Team Leader. I attended North Lake College, now Dallas College, and had the opportunity to study abroad, Rome, for the spring semester. I also enjoyed my 8 years with Chuy's as restaurant manager in Austin, Texas. I married and moved to Dolores Hidalgo, Guanaguato (CIN) Cuna de Independencia Nacional, Mexico. At La Univerisdad Tecnologica del Norte de Guanajuato as Profesor de Asignatura I taught English as a Second Language for 8 years. Returning to the USA with our 3 growing children I found my dream job at my alma mater, Irving High School. Although the demographics had changed the needs of the students, their vibrancy, and their opportunity for guidance and growth remained as intense as my days. I have been and ESL teacher for 10 years guiding a range of student groups from Reading, College Prep, AVID, English 1, 2, and 3 as well as other auxiliary language development courses. I had the pleasure of seeing my youngest daughter selected as Top Tiger and graduating from Irving High School with many honors. In addition to family and work I have enjoyed cycling, swimming, coaching soccer, scoring a variety of sports, and walking our 10 year old puppy Mason. This year our middle daughter gave us our first grandson, John Luke!
