Alexander Mazuzan
Alexander's Program
Hmmm, does he write about himself in the third person? Nah, let's go with the first person. My name is Alex Mazuzan, born and raised in Burlington, Vermont but residing in sunny Mallorca, Balearic Islands, Spain. In college, studied a dual degree consisting of International Economics and, more interestingly and relevantly, Estudios Hispanicos (Hispanic Studies). During my time at St. Lawrence Unversity, I spent my sophomore spring (2016) studying and living with a host family in Madrid. Since then, I have known that Spain is where I belong.
My path back to Spain has been a bit meandering, I visited once in the spring of 2019 (my second time in Sevilla). Now, I have been living and teaching English in Mallorca since last October and will be doing so again this coming school year. My plan after is to study a masters (in what? well, I am not 100% certain myself) in Madrid or Barcelona once I find the program that is right for me and will take me! From there I hope to find full time work in Spain (ideally Madrid, but I am flexible) and eventually establish myself as a permanent resident.
Enough of the boring background, wants, wishes, and future desires, I recognize I am writing for an audience of mostly parents, family, friends, and otherwise loved ones of the many students myself and the other program leaders will be guiding. I have traveled extensively throughout the island, mostly on the eastern side and up north around the dramatic Cap de Formentor (Cape of Formentor, which has a famous lighthouse at the point that may pop up in your Google or Microsoft auto rotation screensaver from time to time). However, I know Palma well as I have stayed many nights in town and spend many an afternoon or casual morning wandering the streets and I am really looking forward to the opportunity to get to spend a full month in the city sharing my knowledge with the students and learning from all the amazing guides who will be leading us through detailed tours of cultural and natural sites.
My personal interests include (but are certainly not limited to): hiking, traveling, reading, writing, learning new languages,TV/movies, long & aimless walks to clear the brain, pasearlo bien con mi familia y amigos, integrarme en la cultural en el sitio en queue me encuentro.
Where I live: Porto Cristo, Manacor, Mallorca, Balearic Islands, Spain!
What I do for work: English Teaching Assistant at IES Manacor (Auxiliar de Conversación)
General life goals: Become permanent resident/eventually full on citizen of Spain; pursue postgraduate degree(s); live in Madrid; build a life and a loving family in Spain; improve and gain relative proficiency in Catalan and French; study Italian; study an Eastern Asian language some day; study an African language; study Turkish; read & write more; (likely self-)publish a book.
Encantado, encantat, bienvenido i bienvegut, gracias por estar aquí
