Public Service Announcement: Register to Vote & Get Your Absentee Ballot
While I was away working as a counselor at summer camp, I hit a milestone - I turned 17 years and 10 months old. It's a milestone because in Texas, if you are 17 years and 10 months old, you can register to vote. I just got home on Monday night and today I went over to my friend Uly's house to do the paperwork. His dad used to be our congressman and now he runs a huge grassroots organization called Powered by People that helps people register to vote all across Texas.
I've been doing campaign events and block walking with my family & friends since 4th grade, starting with the 2018 election. During the last governors race in 2022 my friends and I did the math and realized that we would be able to vote in the next election, and now it’s finally time. I hope you and all your friends will vote, too.
Every state has different policies for registering to vote and you can check them out here: https://www.rockthevote.org/how-to-vote/nationwide-voting-info/voter-pre-registration/
If you're a Texan, here's a link to request an absentee ballot by mail: https://www.sos.texas.gov/elections/voter/reqabbm.shtml
If you're not a Texan, here are some links to general information for US citizens to help you figure out how to vote while away from home:
