Well, Halloween (kind of) was not that long ago. I know you can't make Western traditions like they are back home. That's life abroad. But you can try!

I paid for a ticket to Seoul (surprise, surprise). This one was for the Saturday before Halloween (not actual Halloween Night). The weekend is always an easier time for people to go out. There was a ton of Halloween parties being held at bars and clubs on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday before Halloween. Friday night before I left two of my friends called to tell me they were terribly ill. I could hear it in their voices. My party-goers couldn’t come. What was I to do? I met up with other friends and caught up at Beer Pong Bar with them. We couldn’t stay for too long. These friends were tired, had to study as they were enrolled in Korean universities, and some just had other priorities. But I was not tired. My Halloween was not over. I took a cab to the clubbing district to see some costumes, and to dance. Astronauts, Mario, and teddy bears roamed the streets and the list did not end there. I couldn’t believe no one was here to see this with me. Although I would have preferred friends to come along, it was still worth it to go alone. Anyways, sometimes things happen that you can’t control. You have to just roll with it. Sometimes, it’s even better to go alone.

EPIK Trip

Last Thursday and Friday EPIK took all its Guest English Teachers on a trip to Andong and Yeongju. Yeongju is famous for its archery and its ginseng. We listened to some history, hiked a mountain (only to the temple ), participated in calligraphy and archery and slept on the floor of a traditional Korean Hanok House.

The man standing with his arms pointed forward (in the earlier picture) is an expert calligrapher. He painted calligraphy for everyone on fans we all received. On my fan the calligraphy means 'tree root', or in other words, a strong man. I am firm in who I am and what I believe.
