Things to Do in Seville
Seville, or Sevilla as it's called in Spanish, captured my heart right away. Just like Madrid it is bustling with lots of activity, and the buildings aren’t as tall; you can experience the active city lifestyle without feeling boxed in.
Although buildings may be not as tall as ones in Madrid, they are still as equally as impressive architecturally. There are some breathtaking sights to see in Seville, so keep reading to discover the best things to do.
1. Cathedral of Santa Maria de la Sede
The Cathedral in Seville is enormous. It actually holds a Guinness World Record for being the largest roman catholic church. The outside is very ornate and detailed, and the inside is just as impressive. You can get tickets to tour the inside of the cathedral for around 15 euros, or you can get a glimpse of the inside through a smaller door that has a little roped off section just inside the cathedral.
Interesting fact about this cathedral - the tomb of Christopher Columbus is located inside.
2. Alcazar
The Royal Alcazar in Seville was one of the most impressive I’ve seen, because of its size and attention to detail. Every tile in this enormous palace was painted with care and attention to detail. We bought tickets to go inside for 14 euros. Spending probably 2 hours inside, I definitely felt like it was worth my money. To skip the ticket line, you can yours online at alacazarseville.org.
Inside, you can learn some history of the Alcazar, see where the King of Spain stays when he is in Seville, explore the gardens and the mini labyrinth, and even see some peacocks. Additionally, if you’re a Game of Thrones fan, one of the courtyards inside the Alcazar was used as a filming location for one of the castles in the show.
3. Plaza de Espana
Hands-down, the Plaza de Espana in Seville was the single coolest thing I have seen since being in Europe. The plaza is enormous and so exquisitely decorated with millions of handcrafted porcelain tiles. In the center of the Alcazar, there was a flamenco show going on. Seville is where Flamenco originated from. Whether you see a free one at the Alcazar like us, or you book tickets, I suggest you go to a show!
An interesting fact about the plaza is that it was used as a filming location for Star Wars! Being a huge star wars nerd myself, I had my friends help me to recreate the scene from the movie. The scene is in Attack of the Clones, when Padame, Anakin, and R2D2 are in Naboo. If you are a huge nerd yourself, make sure you stop by this iconic site.
4. Amorino
It wouldn’t be a travel blog post if I didn’t tell you about my favorite gelato spot. Amorino is located in the center of the city by the cathedral and the alcazar. If you get your gelato in a cone they shape it into a rose for you. Not only does it look pretty, but it tastes amazing, and they also make macarons you can put on top!
5. Isla Magica
It is an amusement park located within the city. I am an avid roller coaster rider and theme park lover. If I had spent another day in Seville, I would’ve made a visit here. Unfortunately, I didn’t have time, but I would definitely be down to visit Seville again.
If you’re an aux living in Madrid and you love theme parks as well, make sure to hit up Parque Warner located 45 minutes south of Madrid. They have some great coasters, and everything is Warner Brothers themed.
