Welcome to Rome!
Arrival and Orientation
Benvenuti a Roma! CIEE’s “Exploring Rome through the Arts” high school study abroad program is off to a running start. All 18 program participants, along with myself, arrived on Sunday. After a long day/night of travel, we were all excited to see my incredible co-leader Francesca greet us at the airport with a big smile...and a bigger CIEE sign. We spent the day fighting off jetlag with all our strength, eating pasta, and getting to know each other.
On Monday we had orientation where we learned important health and safety information, as well as some Italian culture 101. In the afternoon we took a walk from our neighborhood (which is steps away from the Vatican), to the center of Rome. Even though we are still getting adjusted to Rome time, students were eager to explore the city.
The past two days have been full of “firsts.” It is the first time in Italy for all of our wonderful, enthusiastic, curious program participants. For the majority, it is their first time leaving the United States. First time being away from home for three whole weeks too. And today we can cross one of the most significant firsts off the list - the first taste of authentic gelato in Rome!
