¡Hola a todos! Our first week in Madrid has been a blast. Everybody is slowly but surely getting to know their new home for the next month. In the afternoons we've had a lot of fun cultural activities planned so that our students get to know the history and culture of the city.

Wednesday's highlight was taking a tour of Las Ventas bull-fighting ring, the most important one in the whole country! Bull-fighting is a long-standing tradition in Spain that dates back to the 1700's, albeit a nationally-debated topic currently.

We all had a blast learning about the arena and the art of bull-fighting in Spain. Las Ventas holds up to 23,798 fans, and there is even a special "box" seat for the King of Spain. Fun fact: The King is the only person in the arena that has the power to spare a bull's life if it has been a brave fight. We also learned that there are also over 90 different types of "moves" that a bullfighter can employ in order to avoid a bull's charge.
