Viking Charm and Hygge Vibes: CIEE Students Immerse Themselves in Copenhagen
Copenhagen, the vibrant capital of Denmark, is proving to be a captivating classroom for students enrolled in CIEE's study abroad program. These young scholars are venturing beyond textbooks, experiencing firsthand the rich tapestry of Danish culture, history, and way of life.
One recent adventure involved a scenic canal boat tour. Gliding past colorful houses lining the waterfront and iconic landmarks like the Amalienborg Palace, students gained a unique perspective of the city. This watery exploration undoubtedly sparked discussions about Copenhagen's maritime history and its ongoing commitment to sustainable urban development.
Another quintessential Copenhagen experience for the CIEE group was witnessing the daily Changing of the Guard ceremony at the royal palace. The elaborate display of pomp and tradition offered a glimpse into Danish history and the enduring role of the monarchy in the country's cultural identity.
Seeking a taste of leisure, the students ventured to Tivoli Gardens, the second-oldest amusement park in the world. Founded in 1843, this enchanting green space offers a delightful mix of thrilling rides, charming gardens, and delectable treats. For CIEE students, Tivoli Gardens likely served as a microcosm of Danish society, where amusement and relaxation hold a significant place.
To delve deeper into the country's rich past, the group embarked on a cultural immersion at the National Museum. Here, they explored artifacts that tell the story of Denmark, from Viking settlements to the modern era. This visit undoubtedly fostered a greater understanding of Danish heritage and its influence on the nation's contemporary character.
CIEE's Copenhagen program exemplifies the transformative power of study abroad. By stepping outside the classroom and engaging with the local culture in all its vibrancy, students gain a deeper understanding of the world and themselves. Their time in Copenhagen is sure to leave a lasting impression, filled with memories of canal tours, changing guards, and the undeniable charm of Danish life.
