A Step in to History: A Student's Berlin Awakening
Our Berlin adventure, as a group of students on an entrepreneurship program, wasn't just about brainstorming business plans and navigating the city's sights. Berlin is a living museum, where the weight of history hangs heavy in the air. We experienced somber walks through memorials, each step,a poignant reminder of the city's turbulent past.
Our exploration began with the iconic Brandenburg Gate, a symbol of both division and reunification. Standing beneath its imposing columns, we learned about its role in separating East and West Berlin during the Cold War. A visit past the Reichstag building, the seat of the German Parliament, offered a glimpse into the heart of German politics. Its scarred dome, a testament to the horrors of World War II.
We walked through the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, a vast field of 2,711 concrete pillars. Walking through the labyrinthine structure, the enormity of the Holocaust sunk in. Berlin's historic sights weren't just dusty relics of the past. They were a stark reminder of the human capacity for both destruction and resilience. As we walked through the remnants of the Berlin Wall, now a vibrant open-air gallery,This city had risen from the ashes to become a vibrant symbol of unity and artistic expression.
