Video montage in Russia - "Motor!"
One of our first explorations of the arts of St. Petersburg began with a visit to Lendok, Russia’s oldest documentary film studio. Established over 80 years ago, more than 1,000 documentary films have been produced by Lendok.
An expert at Lendok spent the afternoon showing our students some of Lendok’s archives, including old film paper, sound archives, and older Soviet film and camera equipment, which we were able to play with. Throughout the visit, students engaged in a videography workshop, taking turns assuming the role of director, set manager, and orators, as they explored Lendok’s history, and took short film clips with the intention to piece together. The guidance by the professionals at Lendok will prove to be invaluable during the next three weeks as students undertake a grander scale project of video montage!
