Surf’s up!
This week, our students went surfing on Muizenburg Beach. Muizenberg, which is where we are staying just outside of Cape Town, is known for being a surfing town. Each morning, we wake up to lovely views of the mountains and ocean. There are several surf shops and on Wednesday we had a group surfing lesson. As a first experience for many, this was one of the highlights of the week.
Before heading into the water, our coaches briefed us about water safety and how to pop up on the board. Thankfully, the waves weren’t too wild so many of our students got up on the boards. The rush of the beach brought out the best of the students encouraging each other to keep at it, even if they weren’t pros (yet). The water was cold but with a wetsuit and plenty of adrenaline, we soon forgot the frigid temperature of the water. What a memorable experience!
