Singing, Sightseeing, and Studying
Mamma mia! It’s already Friday of the first week of Language and Culture here in Rome! It feels like we were just getting to the airport, but also like we’ve been here forever. So far we’ve explored and become comfortable getting around the streets by the Study Center, eaten incredible food together and in everyone’s host families, and learned a LOT of Italian. In one week, many students went from just knowing “ciao” to now talking in depth about themselves, their families, how to engage with a shop owner, and even how to describe their homes! Bravissimi!
Today’s cultural activity included a singing class with the wonderful Sonia, who came in to teach us how to sing a few Italian pop songs. It was a blast seeing students continue to come out of their shell and play and be goofy together, instead of being shy about singing, everyone had so much fun.
After, it was a wonderful day, so my group took a little trip to explore Trastevere, a neighborhood on the other side of the Tiber River, where there’s an interesting, young, “cool” energy. It’s known to be both a young and international neighborhood. Students were able to practice their communication skills, as they made their way around the area. Tonight we’re going to visit the Colosseum! What a busy and exciting day! We can’t wait for our group’s trip to Tivoli tomorrow, and a host family day on Sunday! Stay tuned for more Roman adventures…
