¡Sevilla Es Una Maravilla!
After months and months of waiting, aquí estamos (here we are)!
Seville (Sevilla in Spanish) is the capital and the largest city in Andalusia, the southernmost autonomous community in Spain. Rooted in rich Roman and Arab history, Seville is renown for its iconic architecture, cobbled narrow streets, dazzling flamenco performances, and so much more. Though summer temperatures can reach into the triple digits, the heat didn't intimidate our group of ambitious language learners from making Sevilla their new home away from home.
As a Spanish teacher and non-native speaker, it absolutely warmed my heart to hear students take their pledge to improve their Spanish seriously as many students immediately began conversing in Spanish before our flight even left New York City! Learning a second (or for some, a third) language is no simple task -- the fear of saying the wrong word or being misunderstood could cause anyone extreme anxiety -- but, this is the crown jewel in full immersion. Through continuous support from CIEE professors, program leaders, staff, and homestay families, students’ language skills will skyrocket over the next four weeks.
