Last week, after navigating the Spanish language in class, the HSSA Language & Culture group went out to conquer el Río Guadalquivir.

First, we had to actually get to the river, using our handy-dandy transportation cards to make the trek by bus, not because we can’t handle the Sevillian heat… just because we needed to save all our energy to kayak ¡a tope!

Once we got there, the friendly staff helped us get all our kayaks and life vests ready before teaching us how to have a great time safely on the river. We also learned some new vocabulary such as piragüismo (kayaking/canoeing), remo (paddle) and more.

Then we got in the river and off we went! As one can imagine, some were off to the races and others straggled behind. But being a good group, we waited for everyone at each bridge we got to.

And on the way back, with the excitement of the Paris Olympics in the air, everyone was gearing to go, trying to be the first ones to ‘win’ and make it back to the dock.

And that was that, our kayaking adventure!
