Service work at Trafaria Beach!
On Wednesday, June 23, we visited Trafaria Beach to volunteer with a local NGO that is working to clean up and restore the beach and encourage the local community to have pride in their neighborhood and take care of it. We shucked bamboo and painted wooden planks with pretty designs and placed them in the sand, forming a path in between the dunes that lead to the beach. This path allows visitors to access the beach without trampling and destroying the dunes, allowing them to flourish. To celebrate all of our hard work, we spent the afternoon at the beach. We swam in the ocean, played soccer and beach volleyball and got some sun. It was beautiful at the beach and a great place to relax after a morning of tough yet fulfilling work. Our coordinator Ana also got us some Bola de Berlim, a delicious custard pastry that locals enjoy eating at the beach!
