Service Learning with Voice 4 Girls
Yesterday marked our last day of service learning at the two local schools in Hyderabad - M.A. Ideal and Mohammed Memorial High school. This week was a whirlwind of classroom sucesses and struggles. Each of the HSSA participants showed such perseverance and rose to the challenges that were presented to them.
We spent six days in the respective classrooms, working our way through the Voice 4 Girls curriculum that we were trained in the week previous. The topics that were covered with the young girls included school, college, health, finances, and more.
Connections were made almost immediately with the girls, ranging in ages from 11-14. There was excitement each day as the HSSA participants made their way into the schools and a drawn out goodbye on the last day as we wrapped up camp and parted ways.
Many of the girls have remarked already that this week was a life changing experience and that they learned things about themselves that they never knew before.
We finished off our week having lunch with the Executive Director of Voice 4 Girls, Anusha Bharadwaj. She told us about the history of the organization and her career of advocating for young women.
Looking forward to our remaining time here, we’re headed off to Hampi this evening and then will spend our remaining days in Hyderabad working on Final Projects and soaking up the last bits of our Indian summer.
