Creative Writing in Literary London

This morning during students’ creative writing class, students gave presentations on a variety of topics related to the Harry Potter movies and books including: magical creatures (and what they represent), film sets, musical effects in the film score, gender roles, the author’s purpose in society, Harry Potter fan fiction, female stereotypes, etc.  Dr. Rosa provided VR headsets for students to examine how the Harry Potter novels were adapted into a video game as well.  Afterwards, students pitched their own ideas for Hogwarts-inspired video games.

After eating meat pies for lunch, students setup for our Harry Potter themed party.  Bella S, Eliza, Tessa, Ethan, and Chloe created a sorting hat game that divided party attendants into four houses: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff.  Viv, Anna, and Jonah led Harry Potter trivia and created a Kahoot quiz.  Jayden took 1st place; Wes came in 2nd; and Bella R. placed 3rd.  Afterwards, we played a poetry writing game known as exquisite corpses led by Marin, Ethan, and Jayden.  While socializing we enjoyed drinking “magic potions” mixed up by Rue, Ricky, Lana, and Elle using lemonade, coca-cola, ginger beer, and various fruit cocktails.  Each drink had a unique name.

The party concluded with an open mic organized by Mac, Alana, and Dillion.  Numerous students participated including Elle, Rue, Alana, Marin, Dillion, Tessa, Ren, Chloe, Dexter, Chris, Ethan, Olivia, and Jayden.  They read some of their poems, short stories, memoirs, and other writings.  We certainly had a magical time together.
