Mabrouk L-Eid: Celebrating the End of Ramadan
Eid is the Arabic word for holiday. Over the weekend, Moroccans celebrated Eid Al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan. Moroccans spend time visiting families, often traveling to their home cities to see extended family. In anticipation of the Eid, families have been working hard to prepare delicious holiday foods, including cookies with intricate designs and dishes with sweet and savory flavors.
On Eid, I visited one of the students and her host family. For lunch we ate a meat dish that has dried fruits and fried almonds. It was delicious! We also had sweet tea and cookies, dressed up in Moroccan outfits called taksheita, and took pictures. After lunch, we met some of the extended family and watched the Morocco vs. Iran match. Unfortunately, Morocco lost the match, but that didn't stop us from having a wonderful afternoon.
