Lisbon Tile Museum and Language and Culture Tour
Over the past two days students have been exploring Lisbon and discovering more about its' rich culture and history. Students began their day at the Museu do Azulejo, or National Tile Museum, in Lisbon. While at the museum students explored the many rooms and hallways adorned with beautiful tiles and ornate historical pieces. This also gave students the opportunity to get inspiration for their own tiles. After exploring students were given time to paint their own unique tiles. Some chose to use stencils and create traditional tiles, while others created their own pieces to match their own style or personality. They all created some truly beautiful pieces that we are eagerly awaiting from the kiln to see the final product.
After the tile museum students headed off to Lisbon to meet with our amazing language and culture teachers for a walking tour of Lisbon. While on the tour students were able to see amazing sites such as Praca do Comercio (Commerce Square),home to the D. Jose Statue (the very first staue to featuire a horse), the Rua Augusta Arch, and Praca do Rossio (Rossio Square). Rossio Square is also home to monuments such as Column of Pedro IV of Portugal, D. Maria II National Theatre, and Cafe Nicola (one of the most famous coffee shops in Lisbon. Students then braved the hills of Lisbon to get some well deserved Gelato on their way up to Miradouro da Graca where they enjoyed a beautiful view of Lisbon's St. George's Castle, Lisbon, and the Targus river. Then it was off to the student's all time favorite activity, free time!
While enjoying free time students were able to do some shopping, sample local cuisine, and stroll the beautiful streets of Lisbon. In all the students had an amazing two days exploring Lisbon and enjoying its rich culture. Adeus por enquanto!
