Lighting up the Past
Ciao from our Global Navigators finding their feet, making new friends and settling into Roman life!
We love the fact that our hotel is right in the heart of the historic centre, overlooking several of the imperial forums. The Fori Imperiali were political venues where the emperors presided over the popolo, the people. By day they are imposing, with columns, many still almost perfectly intact, stretching into the sky. But we were lucky enough to also see them by night during the light show!
We sat and enjoyed the show at the Forum of Augustus, where an audio visual performance helped us to learn all about how the forum used to look and how it’s been through fires, wars, years of battle and yet parts of it still stand as proudly as ever. The projections illuminated the walls and floor showing us what used to be there.
We really enjoyed this little slice of history and for a moment we experienced just something of what the ancient Roman people used to feel when they stood in the very same forums 2000 years ago.
