Learning via experience and creativity!
The students were prepared to enter the most thrilling climate change mitigation session yesterday at 8:00 am! The professor and the teaching assistant, Caro and Rebe, make a fantastic teaching combination that encourages creativity and critical thinking in their students.
We started the class reflecting on the hard truths of climate change! Why does the climate change happen? What are the effects of it? What have we as a species done to strengthen and hasten climate change?
Students answered these three questions making a lot of fun dynamics!
FUN FACT: Did you know that methane produced by cows is one of the most harmful climate gases?
HIKING TIME! In order to visit the greenhouse, the students went on a hike through Sendero el Nino. We can all feel the intense heat present in a greenhouse. We were able to comprehend via this experience that if the atmosphere continues to warm, its impacts will be harmful to us as humans.
Outside the greenhouse we were able to appreciate the beautiful view of a regenerating forest of the CIEE campus and some banana trees who harvest the bananas that we enjoy at breakfast!
Welcome rainy days!
Monteverde is well known for its unpredictable climate but that makes it more fun! We enjoyed fun hikes, students discovered the wonders of the tropical rainforest of Costa Rica.
