Getaway for the Weekend

This weekend students stayed in Inverness. Our tour around the small town was filled with stories about fairies and wars. A story about fiddlers and fairies teaching us, 

if somebody offers you a deal that's too good to be true, it usually is

Learning about the sanctity of a church during war and the brutality of British soldiers and were able to touch bullets that still remain in the doorway of the building. Students also learned how the skull and crossbones symbol is not about death but resurrection. They had the opportunity to explore the graveyard as well as the local used bookshop Leakey's. 

The next day students were able explore Loch Ness and search for Nessie. With a smooth boat ride on a rare and very still loch, students were able to get breathtaking photos of the loch and the Urquhart Castle. They got to learn about the Wars of Scottish Independence. With the building never being rebuilt, we could see the impression that these wars had on the architecture.

Our last stop on the way back to Edinburgh was to visit the cutest alpaca farm. Students learned about how male and female alpacas can not co exist and that when alpacas are trying to be the alpha they will bite the ears of the other alpacas. After getting to feed and pet the alpacas, we visited the Dores Beach. Students were able to dip their toes in and co exist with the ducks that floated along the water. 

After a weekend filled with history and fun experiences, they took knowledge of new places back to Edinburgh and to their writing.
