A fun day of learning about sustainable farming!
The students awoke bright and early today to begin their day in the greatest possible way... milking cows at our farm! This was the first time they had had the opportunity to milk a cow on their own. We had a great time and learned how much milk a cow produces on a daily basis.
Then, they prepared to learn about sustainable farming and enjoy a wonderful tour in the farm which specializes in organic coffee, fruits and vegetable planting.
They reflect about the difference between a monoculture and a diverse cropping system in which each plant has a key role to achieve an organic and sustainable farming method. We had the chance to enjoy coffee and a sweet and warm homemade banana bread!
Families in Costa Rica are always very welcoming!
The good news is that practically all of the students go to the farm to buy organic coffee to take home as a souvenir for their families!
We continued to explore what field work on a farm entails and we did hours of service cleaning the plantations at the CIEE organic garden. Participants enjoy it a lot and worked as a team the whole time.
It was a wonderful day spending time in the forest, the farm and between new friends!
