Exploring Seville from the Guadalquivir

The students of the CIEE Sevilla Language and Culture program embarked on a vibrant excursion, rowing along the Guadalquivir River, which divides the city in two. We started the activity on the riverbank, where the guide showed us the necessary techniques to navigate the kayak. After some theory and practice on solid ground, we launched into the water.

During the activity, we passed under three of the city's bridges. The day perfectly combined sport and culture. We enjoyed iconic sites such as the Torre del Oro, the Barrio de Triana, the Puente de Triana, and the Torre Sevilla. We also passed by the Plaza de Toros de la Maestranza and the Alamillo Bridge. The river's promenades were filled with people walking or exercising.

During our trip on the river, we had the chance to get close to the Nao Victoria 500, a replica of the ship that made the first circumnavigation of the world, which is currently docked at the Muelle de la Sal. At the end of the activity, we could see how much everyone had enjoyed kayaking and also how tired we all were, needing to get home to regain our strength.

This kayaking activity on the river offered us a completely different perspective of what the city has to offer.
