El Castillo de Guadalest and Las Fuentes del Algar
The entrance to the Castle is surrounded by a picturesque small town full of shops and restaurants. To get to the Castle, you have to walk up a slope. Something very peculiar about this part of Spain is that you always walk up or down. There are very few flat parts, and the castles, in the end, a symbol of power, must have been in the highest places.
The entrance to the Castle is preceded by an Orduña house, a colonial house with very high ceilings, concrete and stone walls, and different rooms, each one with a surprise to discover. Inside the house, we are shown the type of life that the ancient inhabitants of Guadalest led. We can see rooms with old beds and small mirrors. In some rooms, there are religious paintings, a chapel, a church inside the Castle, and the image of a virgin that remains motionless, adorned with golden colors and lights. All the walls are painted white and decorated with old photos. Some rooms have the coat of arms of the houses and the family trees of the Orduña family. This visit transports us to a historical context that allows students to imagine what life was like in the 1500s.
Outside, the views are impressive; the turquoise-blue color of a lake accompanied by trees and other natural beauties gives a feeling of peace and well-being.
After the visit, we explored the city. We found a stall selling typical Spanish sweets. Some students bought nougat, jelly beans, and a little honey so they could taste Spain.
Las Fuentes del Algar
The Algar Fountains are a wonder of nature. Their water is turquoise green, and you can feel the pressure of the water, which is always running like a spring.
Las fuentes son muy bonitas. The water is so cold.
LILA CALDER
The kids bathed in the waters of Algar and enjoyed the fresh water for several hours.
