When you think of studying Spanish in the enchanting island of Mallorca, endless vocabulary lists and grammar rules might come to mind. But for a group of enthusiastic Global Navigators, a recent field trip to the majestic Castle Bellver turned an ordinary Thursday into an extraordinary adventure. Nestled atop a hill overlooking the vibrant city of Palma, Castle Bellver is not only a historical gem but also a perfect escape from the classroom.

As we ascended the winding road leading to the castle, the air buzzed with excitement and a few attempted conjugations of “subir” (to climb) and “ver” (to see). Upon arrival, we were greeted by the castle's impressive circular structure, a rarity in European castles, and the lush greenery that surrounds it.

Inside, the students marveled at the Gothic architecture and the stunning views from the terrace, which offered a panoramic glimpse of Palma and the sparkling Mediterranean Sea. The castle’s museum, housed in the old chapel, showcased a rich collection of archaeological finds and historical artifacts. As we wandered through the exhibits, students practiced their Spanish by reading the descriptions and engaging in animated discussions about the history and culture of Mallorca.

Our visit concluded with a leisurely picnic in the castle’s courtyard. Laughter and lively chatter filled the air as we relaxed under the warm Spanish sun, feeling both accomplished by walking up several flights of stairs and inspired in our language journey. This field trip to Castle Bellver wasn't just an educational experience—it was a reminder of the joy and adventure that comes with learning a new language, surrounded by history and natural beauty.
