¡Bienvenidos a Mérida!
¡Bienvenidos a Mérida!
¡¡Hola a todos - yo me llamo Jacqui y estoy muy feliz de estar aquí con sus alumnos!!
I am a Spanish teacher from Boston and am just as excited to learn as the students are. :)
This is my second time working as a Program Leader for CIEE and I am just as excited for this trip as I was my first!
We arrived yesterday after some questionable weather patterns and were ready to meet our new host families. I live with Ivonne and her two children as well as Shannon, one of our other Program Leaders, as well as three cats and a dog. I have a snapshot of one of my new "brothers" included.
At orientation today, we had classes on culture shock, norms, transportation and expectations. The students are NOT shy at all - my icebreaker group even agreed to a short dance class! Lunch was a great way to meet more students and see how engaged they are with each other. It truly seems everyone is getting along and already feeling the fun energy!
Tomorrow we have our first Spanish language classes. As a Spanish teacher, I know I am excited! We also have a guagua tour, or bus tour, around the city. I'd say we are very lucky people to be here!
Stay tuned to hear more about our adventures that JUST began!
Abrazos!
Jacqui
