What to Pack for Study Abroad in Seville
By Emma Da Silva
Thinking of what to pack for your study abroad time is hard when you want to travel to different countries during your time there. Having to bring clothes for every season, even if your home city doesn’t change much, is necessary. Sevilla is one of the hottest cities in Europe, and it’s important to keep that in mind. Packing is very stressful (at least to me) so I hope this guide is able to help some of you.
- Light Clothes - Seasons Changing
Before you start packing, I would google the usual weather in the city you’ll be living in. Don’t just look at the first month or so; instead, search for all the months you’ll be there. For Sevilla, it’s about 80 degrees until mid-November, and it’s also dry heat. The best things to bring for me were thin t-shirts and tops that you can layer but also wear on their own. For the girls, multipurpose dresses are also very useful and popular in the summer to stay cool and in the fall/winter that you can layer with. Although it’s very hot in Sevilla, there are days when you need a light button-up or jacket in order to be comfortable in the morning or night. If you plan on traveling during your abroad time, I would still bring sweaters and a winter jacket for those trips you’ll be taking. You never know where you’ll be going! - Comfortable Shoes - Sandals and Sneakers
Walking is the most popular form of transportation in Sevilla. Comfortable sneakers and sandals will save you the pain when exploring your new city. Nice looking sneakers are very popular in Europe, and you’ll fit right in. - Filtered Water Bottle
Although Spain’s tap water is safe to drink, I prefer to still filter it. I purchased a Philips filtered water bottle and loved it a lot. It was also useful when traveling to different countries and not have to worry how safe the water is to drink there. - Mirror with Light
Personally, I like to get ready in the morning at my desk while I do my skincare routine and makeup. Most apartments won't provide a small desk mirror. Knowing that, I got myself one with LED lights. Room lighting is also rough on the face when doing makeup and it's beneficial to have your own! - Large School Bag
In the U.S., students carry around backpacks to class; however, in Europe, large purses are more popular. My large bag saved me when having to walk to my different universities. Especially when I wanted to make a stop at a grocery store or go shopping. Most stores don’t provide bags after your purchase, having one always on you is a lifesaver.
