2. Sant Joan Festival
The Sant Joan festival is one of the most significant nights in Mallorca as it celebrates the start of the summer solstice! The Sant Joan Festival, originally rooted in pagan traditions, has evolved into an important Catholic summer celebration. It honors the victory of light over darkness and takes place from June 23rd to June 24th, marking the shortest night of the year. The night is also known as the "Night of Fire" or "Nit del Foc" in Catalan. A common tradition is to write a note containing your fears and burning it in a bonfire, symbolizing the eradication of anxiety. During the festival, fireworks and fire are carried around by performers dressed as demons. It truly is an unforgettable experience!
