My Time Abroad with CIEE
By: Daryn Perlman
Studying abroad with CIEE has been nothing short of phenomenal. Every single day, I’ve had the opportunity to meet new people, immerse myself in different cultures, and explore all that Barcelona has to offer. From breathtaking hikes to weekend getaways in iconic European cities, this experience has been truly life-changing.
One of the highlights of my time abroad has been hiking in Montserrat. The stunning views and peaceful surroundings made it an unforgettable adventure. Exploring the trails and reaching the top gave me a sense of accomplishment and a deeper appreciation for Spain’s natural beauty.
Beyond Barcelona, I’ve taken weekend trips to some of the most beautiful cities in Europe. Whether it was admiring the Eiffel Tower in Paris, tossing a coin into the Trevi Fountain in Rome, or strolling through the historic streets of other European destinations, each trip has been a new adventure filled with culture, history, and unforgettable memories.
Another unexpected but rewarding part of my journey has been tutoring Spanish children in English. This experience has allowed me to give back to the community while also deepening my understanding of language learning. It’s been incredibly fulfilling to see the progress my students make and to form connections with them through teaching.
Every day in Barcelona presents something new—whether it’s discovering a hidden café, watching a breathtaking sunset over the Mediterranean, or simply strolling through the lively streets of the city. This experience has expanded my perspective, pushed me outside my comfort zone, and allowed me to grow both personally and academically.
Studying abroad has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, and I am beyond grateful for the friendships, experiences, and lessons I’ve gained along the way. If you ever have the chance to study abroad, take it; you never know what incredible experiences await!
