While in Amsterdam, if you’re not in the mood for its famous pickled herring or stamppot dinner, there are still so many restaurants that offer delicious cuisine, cozy and inviting environments, and experiences that will leave you wanting to return to the city just to eat. Throughout my semester here, I’ve explored the food culture with friends, family, and loved ones.

Sjefietshe- De Pijp

Sjefietshe is located on a cozy corner of De Pijp. If you’re looking for a fish-dominated meal, this is the place. The restaurant centers its dishes around different seafood and does a fantastic job at highlighting the fish's flavors while also complimenting it with the perfect accompanying ingredients. I came here with my mom in early October, and the service was fantastic. It left us wanting to come back the next night. We shared five dishes and a bottle of wine, and everything was incredibly fresh and perfectly plated.

Ceppis

Ceppi’s is located right in Leidseplein and has been my favorite place to take visitors. You’re welcomed with the coziest ambiance, and the experience only gets better from there. The waiters are fun and young, offering a bright quality of service. Their plates of pasta and oven-roasted pizzas are authentic and truly delicious, so trust that you won’t be leaving with any leftovers. I recommend the spicy vodka pasta or any of their coal-fired pizzas. Stay for the tiramisu and homemade limoncello, and get ready to plan your next visit before you even leave.

De Kas

If you’re looking for a fancier restaurant for a special occasion, head over to De Kas. Not only is This restaurant is set in a beautiful greenhouse from the early 1900s, and they’ve transformed it into something truly beautiful. When you walk in, you can see fresh vegetables being grown in the front room. The menu is centered around the vegetables they grow in-house, and every dish is made with so much love, care, and consideration. I came for Thanksgiving to celebrate and anniversary and they pulled out all the stops. The waiter was knowledgeable about every dish, the history of De Kas, and made us feel right at home.

Dining in Amsterdam has been such a fun way to explore the city's diversity. No matter where you go, you’ll find passionate restaurants looking to make your night amazing. From Dutch to Italian to Korean, there is indeed a place for everyone. Happy eating!
