Deciding between programs in Spain? Imagine wandering through sunlit markets, the scent of fresh herbs and citrus in the air, as you immerse yourself in the beautiful culture of Palma. In just a few steps, you could be chopping, sautéing, and savoring authentic Mediterranean dishes. Discover why taking a Mediterranean cooking class in Palma is more than just a culinary lesson —it's a journey into the heart of Mallorca, where every bite tells a story. Our college student program focuses on Mediterranean Cuisine as we take a journey through the basin to learn about customs and cultures of each region within the Mediterranean.
In Spain there is a saying “Km 0.” Meaning that the food is local and that the less kilometers it traveled the more enticing it is to buy! Mediterranean cuisine focuses on using fresh ingredients and different flavors. The Mediterranean diet, renowned for its health benefits, consists of the trifecta which is olives/olive oil, wine and whole grains. Although broad, the Mediterranean diet is diverse as you travel throughout the Mediterranean basin. A personal favorite being the Italian practicum where we learned to make fresh homemade pasta and tiramisu. There are five different cooking days each with recipes that are unique to the regions of the Mediterranean basin. These include Mallorquin, Spanish, Italian, Greek/Turkish and a wine tasting practicum.
What can I expect?
1. Market Tours: Many classes begin with a tour of Palma’s bustling markets. Such as the Mercat de l'Olivar. Renowned for its fresh ingredients and large selection! You'll learn how to pick the freshest ingredients and understand the importance of seasonality in Mediterranean cooking.

Something that is vital to the Mediterranean diet is the aspect of social togetherness. It is vital to foster community and connections. In Spain there is a special word for that. Being “sobremesa,” it is the Spanish custom of relaxing at the dinner table and making conversation after a meal. Being able to have community is a vital aspect of this vibrant culture. After all, I believe that food is also a part of traveling. Going outside of your comfort zone to learn and to grow is something that is important to do for the soul. Taking a Mediterranean cooking class in Palma is more than just a culinary lesson—it’s a journey into the heart of Mallorcan culture. Every moment is an opportunity to learn, taste, and enjoy. So, why not turn your study break into an unforgettable gourmet adventure? Dive into the world of Mediterranean cuisine and bring back not just memories, but skills and stories that will last a lifetime. ¡Buen provecho!
