Whether you are spending a whole year in Madrid or simply going to vacation, the city is home to so many amazing different places and sights to see. One of the most popular past times is going to museums. The museums in Madrid are unlike an other I have see. While Madrid has lots of different types of museums, art is where the city shines. Here is my list of the top 5 museums in Madrid you can’t miss.

Palace

The Royal Palace of Madrid is a must visit when in the city. Not only is it the official residence of the royal family of Spain, but it is also extremely beautiful. While you are walking throughout the palace, you will see extravagant rooms, clothes, dinner wear, gardens, and views. The palace is truly magnificent.

Thyssen

The Thyssen museum in Madrid is one of the many art museums in Madrid. It holds many different kinds of art such as renaissance and romanticism. While still a large museum, it is one of the smaller major museums in Madrid, so its a great choice if you don’t want to commit to a long museum visit.

Prado

Probably the most famous museum in Madrid, the Prado museum is undoubtedly the most amazing, and probably biggest, museum I have ever been to. The Prado is unlike any other museum in Madrid. It holds many different ypes of art, the main kinds bein historic paintings and sculptures. The most famous piece you will find here is the painting Las Meninas. You will also find many pieces my the famous Spanish painter Goya.

Reina Sofia

If you are looking to visit a modern art museum, the Reina Sofia is where you should go. Home to some of the most famous paintings in the world, the Reina Sofia is a definite must if you want to see some modern Spanish Art. The most famous piece you will find here is the Guernica, one of Pablo Picasso’s most prominent pieces.

Sorolla

While visiting big and famous museums can be amazing, it is also nice to visit smaller and more unique museums as well. My favorite museum in Madrid right now is the Sorolla. This small museum, dedicated only to the painter Sorolla, is placed inside his personal home. You will see beautiful and intricate pieces created by him. The feeling while you walk around is personal and calming. Its a must see while visiting Madrid
