Chris Jeney
Chris's Program
Hello! My name is Chris Jeney. I have been living in Portland, Maine for the past decade, but grew up in Shaker Heights, Ohio right outside Cleveland. I graduated from the University of Southern Maine in 2016 with a BS in Exercise Science. During the mandatory gap year while I waited to apply to Graduate School, I actually met someone in Portland who was in town for a conference at CIEE who was born and raised in Monteverde! I later reunited with them in Costa Rica and traveled all over and actually got to meet the founder of Monteverde, Wilfred "Wolf" Guiddon. I returned to Maine and went through grad school to earn a MS Ed. in the Science of Education.
I am a lifelong runner and truly love to be outdoors. I'm grateful to have found a way to combine my passion for teaching, nature adventures, and mentoring young people. I've accumulated 6 years as a high school science, physical education, and health teacher within Sanford high school's Alternative Education Program. I see my job more as a vocation. I know High school can be a time for self-discovery, fun, and serious learning, but can also be incredibly difficult and stressful. My goal is to help make that time just a little bit more enjoyable.
