Carolyn Powell Sanderson began her financial career as a corporate banker in the international division of Manufacturer’s Hanover Trust. After several years working in both New York and London, she transitioned to wealth management, working for U.S. Trust and J.P. Morgan.
Ten years ago, she moved to Morgan Stanley, where she and several partners co-founded the Copper Beech Group. They work with high net worth families to help address their complex family and business issues. As a certified financial planner, she advises a select group of clients and families on their investment, banking, tax, planning and philanthropic needs.
She is extremely active in the community, having served as a trustee of many local not-for-profits, including the Princeton Area Community Foundation, McCarter Theatre, The Princeton Medical Center Foundation, The Friends of the Institute for Advanced Study, Trinity Counseling Service, Millhill Child and Family Development and Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic.
She currently serves on the board of CIEE and the Watershed Institute, and is the chair of the Fund for Women and Girls, an organization that strives to improve the lives of economically disadvantaged women and children.
Carolyn was recognized with the Princeton YWCA’s Tribute to Women in Industry Award, and is an 8 time recipient of the 5 Star Wealth Manager award (2012, 2018-2024), as announced in the Wall Street Journal and New Jersey Monthly.
She was graduated from Harvard College, cum laude, with an A.B. in History and Literature. She enjoys travel, cooking and gardening. She and her husband have three children, and live in Pennington, NJ with their two Scottish terriers.
