Day three of the CIEE Study Abroad Conference in Rome began with a session focused on the power of service learning, student research, and internships in advancing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Then, in a session entitled Ensuring Equity and Crafting Inclusive Policies in an Era of Climate Migration, a distinguished panel discussed how climate change intersects with issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion in complex ways, posing unique challenges and opportunities for communities, policymakers, and organizations.

Closing plenary speaker Mikaela Loach

After a coffee break, attendees enjoyed the closing plenary during which Mikaela Loach, climate justice organizer and best-selling author of It’s Not That Radical, shared a hopeful message about how a better world is possible -- but only if we fight for it. She talked about how climate action that goes to the root of oppressive systems of white supremacy, capitalism and colonialism can transform our world for the better for us all.

The conference concluded with the CIEE Global Sustainability Challenge Pitch Event in which the three teams of challenge finalists presented to a panel of judges their visionary proposals for how study abroad programs can create the next generation of climate changemakers.
