How to get a job abroad

So you want to go abroad,  but don’t want to burn through your savings. How do you do it? Figuring out a source of income while in a foreign country can be challenging-- work visas are hard to come by and language barriers make it difficult to get a just-any-old job. The good news is it’s possible to live abroad and get paid. Here’s how.

Work remotely

The “Work Remote” movement is gaining momentum, and there are even tours you can join to work remotely with other remote workers. If your company lets you work remotely, think about asking them if you can work from abroad.

Keep a travel blog

Travel blogging can be a great career if you’ve got the commitment and skills to keep it up. There are several courses out there to learn how to travel blog, and once your blog is up and running, it’s all about finding advertisers that will pay to be on your online real-estate.

Teach English

We are biased to this one, because it’s how we made living abroad a reality-- and it’s not that hard to do! By getting TEFL certified, you open up job opportunities around the world. Most TEFL jobs have ample vacation time to see a part of the world extensively. And who knows what types of opportunities will open up for you while you are immersed in your local community.

WWOOF-ing (World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms or Willing Workers on Organic Farms)

If you don’t mind working hard and getting dirty, WWOOF-ing might be perfect for you. There are WWOOF-ing positions available around the world that are flexible in terms length of commitment. The pay is okay, and usually accommodation is included.
