A Visit to The House of Pablo Neruda & The Art District
“Poetry is an act of peace. Peace goes into the making of a poet as flour goes into the making of bread.” - Pablo Neruda. Visiting the house of Pablo Neruda, or La Sebastiana was the second cultural activity this week. The house of this legendary Chilean poet is located in the heart of The Art District of Valparaíso. Both to and from La Sebastiana, students for the first time got to explore the windy and narrow callejones (small streets and alleys) and vibrant murals that cover every nook and cranny of the unique landscape. At the museum, students embarked on an audio-guided tour of the poets distinctly designed home, history, and lifestyle. Everyone enjoyed the breathtaking panoramic views from Neruda's balcony, surely to be used later as epic profile pictures on social media. Finally, several students bought famous literary works of Neruda and took turns reading poetry to each other aloud with style!
