Unforgettable Experiences

Our students have been having an incredible time in Portugal, immersing themselves in the local culture, history, and environment. Here's a snapshot of some of the unforgettable experiences they've had so far:

Community Service 

Our students rolled up their sleeves to help reinforce dunes in Cova Do Vapo a local coastal community near Lisbon. They made signs to educate the public, built sturdy fences to protect the dunes, crafted comfortable beach benches, and worked hard to remove invasive species like the ice plant. This hands-on experience taught them the importance of environmental conservation and community service.

Exploring Tidal Pools

The tidal pools offered a unique learning experience about marine life. Students collected and studied various species from the littoral and intertidal ecosystems in the protected area of Avencas, gaining insights into the delicate balance of marine habitats. They were fascinated by the diversity of creatures they encountered and deepened their understanding of the tidal pool ecosystem.

Surfing in Caparica

In Caparica, students dived into the vibrant local surfing culture. With lessons from local experts, they learned how to surf and embraced the challenges of the sport. The waves tested their perseverance, but they had tremendous fun and celebrated their accomplishments, making memories to last a lifetime. 

Discovering Beautiful Sintra

A trip to Sintra was a journey through Portugal's rich culture and history. Using experiential learning approaches, students explored the town's enchanting palaces and gardens, absorbing the historical narratives that have shaped this beautiful region. Sintra's charm and heritage left a lasting impression on everyone.

Adventures in Lisbon

Lisbon, with its dynamic history and stunning coastline, provided a perfect backdrop for both learning and exploration. Students practiced their Portuguese, discovered how tourism has influenced the coastal ecosystems, and delved into the city's storied past. A highlight of their time in Lisbon was a tile workshop, where they unleashed their creativity to produce their own Portugal-inspired tile art, blending artistic skills with cultural appreciation.
