The Time Is Flying By
Our time here in Merida is passing so quickly, but we have definitely been making the most out of our trip, especially in terms of serving the community and enjoy the rich culture here in Yucatan! This week we were able to spend some time at AMANC working with the patients and their families, and it was so nice to see the children with smiles on their faces despite the challenges they are experiencing. Our team was able to engage in some activities, such as creating artwork and painting tattoos, tatuajes, on the children; additionally, some of our group members were able to visit the zoo here with some families from AMANC while other team members helped organize some paperwork and clean the roof. The needs of the organization are plentiful, and our team is ready to step up to the plate and do whatever necessary! It has truly been such a meaningful experience for all of us, and as students reflected on their time in AMANC during their service and leadership workshop, they displayed their compassion and empathy for the families of these patients as they continue to learn about the needs of organizations in low income areas.
In addition to our service project at AMANC and our service and leadership workshop, we had the opportunity to paint our own sombreros and break our piñatas. Everyday is a new adventure trying to beat the heat and make the most of our short stay here in Mérida.
