Tarantella!
Sunday is traditionally a day of rest in Italy, when many stores and restaurants are closed or have limited hours. However, today was another day on the move for our global navigators! We started our day at Piazza di Spagna, also known as the Spanish Steps. Once we arrived, students had a choice of going shopping in the area or visiting Santa Maria della Concezione dei Cappuccini and the Capuchin Crypt.
In the afternoon, we headed back to our classroom to learn about the Taranta (also known as the Tarantella), an Italian folk dance. We started off by practicing beats with tambourines and castanets...
And then dancing in time with the beats...
And finally, putting it all together into a partner dance!
Personally, this was my favorite group activity of the trip so far! Even though I stayed behind the camera to capture these moments, I really enjoyed seeing the happy faces of the students as they swayed, hopped and clapped to traditional Italian music.
