Starting our weekend off on the right foot
We have been really living our best lives here in Yucatán over the last several days! Even though we have been battling against the heat, we have had some opportunities to be of service to the community, and we got to spend some downtime enjoying the beautiful beaches in Progreso. Last Friday, we spent the morning touring the new AMANC facility that is set to open in early October 2023, and the coordinator of AMANC, Walter, was so excited to share his vision for their new home. Not only is the new facility more modern and much larger, it will be able to serve many more families here in Yucatán and surrounding areas, and it has the capability to provide top notch service and treatments to those in need. Walter´s excitement really rubbed off on all of us, and we were able to use our creativity to create promotional videos about the new facility. Afterwards we even had the opportunity to visit a hospital here in Mérida and speak to some of the doctors that treat the patients of AMANC. What a great experience!
In addition to our time working with AMANC and Walter, we have spent some time touring Mérida and some surrounding areas. Friday night we had the opportunity to tour Mérida on La Guagua, an older vehicle similar to a trolley before seeing a light show on the Cathedral of Mérida about the history of Mérida and the co-existence of the two dominant cultures. Finally, Saturday we spent the day at El Corchito, an ecological reserve, before we hit the beach at Celestún and enjoyed the beach day. It was such a great way to start our weekend…
