Riding the canals in Amsterdam
On this day some of the students took a 2 hour canal ride throughout the city center. Our tour guide, Jan who has been with the CIEE HSSA program on all of the cultural activities showed his home (not intentionally part of the tour, but a typical beautiful Amsterdam building along the river), the treater (once built to allow circuses), the large Nemo-science museum (large, green, and in the canal, the National Maritime museum, with the replica of a ship built in the 18th century but sunken on its maiden voyage.
We saw a local swimming section of the canals filled with locals enjoying the summer day, as well as the Rijksmuseum, whose architect also built the beautiful railway station in the city. Students enjoyed waving at locals from the boat, cruising along the canals, what a great ride!
